API 752, 3rd Edition: Changes in Facility Siting Standard

The third edition of API 752, “Management of Hazards Associated with Permanent Buidlings” came out in late 2009 and there are a few major revisions to consider.

  1. Building Occupancy: If a building is occupied, clearly it has to be evaluated. However, according to the new standard if a building is “intended for occupancy”, it must be included in the facility siting study.
  2. MOC: The new edition of the API 752 standard requires facilities to use a Management of Change (MOC) process for changes associated with a buidling. For example, if the number of people increase or a buidling designation changes from “not intended for occupancy” to “intended for occupancy”
  3. Blast Modeling: According to the revised standard, blast modeling has to include a detailed structural analysis to evaluate impact of explosion overpressure on building.
